On the night before their 1 year anniversary, Jamacio Kimble was planning on asking his girlfriend, Kayla King, to marry him.
“The original plan was that night at church we were going to have our youth and college career class get together and have roses and music and the light off, and I would be in the middle of the room,” said Kimble, but fate had other plans.
As Kimble was living baseball practice to go pick up the flowers for the occasion, and then head to the church to ask King to marry him, things took a turn for the worst, literally.
“There’s two curves right before the straight away. One curve I made it, then the second I was getting ready to turn and felt my back wheel sliding,” recalled Kimble.
The roads had been wet and slick due to the storms. When Kimble’s wheels began to slide, he over-corrected, and was going down on embankment, and before he knew it, he was staring eyeball to eyeball with a barbwire fence.
A utility pole crashed through his window, and it didn’t look good. Luckily he had several teammates right behind him driving, and they were able to call for help.
King was on her way out the door to head to the church when she got the call that her boyfriend had been in a crash. She was devastated, and couldn’t believe it.
But thankfully, Kimble was able to walkaway from the scene with only scrapes and bruises, but was still sent to the hospital to the emergency room for observation.
“If you look at the car, the pole was in the front seat and passenger seat, and I could have died on my way to ask the girl of my dreams to marry me. I was like ‘I could have died not asking that, so while I have breath, I’m going to ask that,’”
So in Sweetwater hospital, surrounded by coaches, teachers, family and friends, Kimble got down on one knee, with the help of others, and was able to ask the love of his life to marry him.
“He said tonight was going to go a little different, and I knew…but I could do nothing but break down in tears,” commented King.
And as expected, she said yes. Now the beautiful couple is planning on finishing college before they tie the knot and set a date for their wedding, and we cannot wait!
It may not be a typical proposal story, but it is THEIR story, and we still find it absolutely adorable.
