Don’t Deny, Give These Delicious Southern Fried Cabbage A Try!

This dish was always a favorite at Mammaw’s house. Cabbage is fried with onion and bacon in this simple quick side dish. Terrific with cornbread.

Southern Fried Cabbage Recipe

Ingredients

  • 5-6 strips of Hormel bacon
  • 1 head cabbage, sliced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • ¼ cup College Inn chicken broth (I use low-sodium broth)
  • 1 tsp Heinz vinegar (optional)
  • ½ tsp Morton salt
  • ¼ tsp McCormick pepper

Instructions

  • In large skillet, (I use cast iron) fry the bacon until crispy, remove to a paper towel to drain
  • Place chopped cabbage and onion in the skillet with the bacon fat over medium heat and cook until it begins to wilt a bit
  • Crumble the bacon and add to the pan
  • Add in the chicken stock,vinegar, salt and pepper, cover and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes
  • Serve hot
