You’ve probably already been informed that rubbing alcohol on scrapes or cuts is a great way to quickly cleaning and disinfecting them. You may even have heard of how great it is for cleaning certain objects around your house and removing stains.
But, believe it or not, there are plenty of uses for alcohol that are far less known, but no less important. We’d like to take the liberty and introduce you to them.
For example, were you aware that it is a great makeup fixer or useful for getting rid of bugs? No? Well, read on, folks.
You might just be surprised at just how multi-useful these $2 bottles can be.
1. SAY GOODBYE TO BED BUGS AND DUST MITES
You won’t have to worry about ‘not letting any bed bugs bite you’, after you make use of these little alcohol bottles.
What’s the best method? Nothing simpler. All you do is spray some rubbing alcohol over your bed area and any other place where you’ve spotted bed bugs or dust mites. After letting the mist dry naturally in the air, vacuum the area.
2. FIX YOUR PRESSED POWDER, BLUSH OR EYESHADOW
It’s true, dear readers. All you need to do is fill up a spray bottle with rubbing alcohol and spray it across your broken makeup. Then just smooth it over using either a spoon or your own finger (if you have another idea on how to do that, feel free).
Then just let it sit and harden for a few hours’ time before applying the makeup on your face.
3. GET RID OF THE FUNK
Lord knows we all have an object or two at home, usually worn-out shoes, which brings about a bad odor and ruins the atmosphere. It can also be embarrassing when we have guests over.
Worry not, just spray some rubbing alcohol on the foul-smelling object and let it dry in the sun. Say goodbye to the smell! We sincerely doubt you’ll miss it.
4. STRETCH OUT SHOES
Once again you use the rubbing alcohol in a spray bottle. Simply spray a thin coating on your shoes. Make sure to get the inside as well. Now just put on a pair of thick socks and wear your shoes to stretch them out, so they don’t give you any more trouble.
5. DISINFECT YOUR EYE GLASSES
All you do is rub them with some alcohol, and you’ve got yourself a disinfected pair!
6. HOMEMADE AIR-FRESHENER
Ever considered making your own DIY air-freshener? Well, this is an easy one to make indeed! Not to mention effective. Just mix one cup of rubbing alcohol and about 10 to 15 drops of any essential oil of your choice.
Now just pour this mixture into a spray bottle and freshen up your air without having to worry about inhaling chemicals or toxins!
7. KEEP FRUIT FLIES AWAY
Use your spray bottle and spray rubbing alcohol mist in the areas where you have spotted fruit flies. This will not only kill the ones gathered but stop any others from gathering too!
8. REMOVE LEFTOVER STICKERS
I’m sure we all know have had to deal with this issue at one time or another. It is thanks to this experience that we know just how stubborn stickers can be.
Both stickers of all kinds, as well as price tags, can leave off some gluey gunk after you’re efforts to completely peel them off have been unsuccessful. No worries, dear readers, simply soak those stubborn spots with some alcohol and let it sit for a few minutes.
Afterward, you shouldn’t have any more problems rubbing off the residue.
9. HOMEMADE HAND SANITIZER
You can make your own DIY hand sanitizer without breaking a sweat. All you do is mix three parts of rubbing alcohol together with one part of aloe vera (in gel form, of course).
If you’re the type of person who’s into scented sanitizers, you can always add several drops of the essential oil of your choosing. If you allow us to give you some advice, lavender, lemon or peppermint essential oils are always a good choice.
10. COLD SORES
You can speed up the healing process of your cold sores by dabbing a cotton ball in some rubbing alcohol and directly applying to the area in question. This will quickly dry them out.
11. TREATING HEAD LICE
You can deal with these nasty critters using rubbing alcohol as well! Simply pour some on your hair and scalp and let it soak for about 20 minutes. If you find it easier, you can also dab a comb in alcohol and comb through your locks.
Even if in some cases in might not be sufficient for getting rid of them completely, it certainly aids in any other treatment you’re using.
12. STUBBORN EARWAX REMOVAL
That’s right. You can even use rubbing alcohol for this. What you need to do is mix identical amounts of vinegar and rubbing alcohol and dab a cotton swab with this mixture. It’s great for dissolving the wax and cleaning out your ears!
13. MAKE-UP BRUSH SANITIZER
We’ve already seen that it’s great for fixing broken makeup, but here is another use for your cosmetics. Just soak any makeup brushes you might have in a bowl of rubbing alcohol for a total of 30 minutes before letting them dry out naturally.
In order to keep them clean and in optimal condition (bacteria-free) it’s advisable to do this once each month.
14. PREVENT ANY SWEAT STAINS
The appearance of sweat-induced stains on one’s clothes, especially during summer, can be a real bother, not to mention embarrassing at times. Here’s where rubbing alcohol once again comes to the rescue.
All that’s needed is to wipe your problematic areas (like collars, knees, inner elbows, armpits, etc.) with it. It acts as an effective antiperspirant.
15. SOOTHE ANY ACHES YOU MIGHT HAVE
Would you believe it, rubbing alcohol can help with this issue as well. Simply rub the place where you feel most achy (directly on the skin, of course), and this will serve to bring blood out to the surface, and this will relax and cool your muscles.
That’s it. Not too bad, huh? So you might want to always keep a bottle or two of rubbing alcohol nearby, you never know!
