10 Home Cleaning Tricks Using Coca-Cola You’ll Wish You Knew Earlier

Coca Cola is without a doubt the most recognizable soda in the world. No matter where you go, you can find the iconic red and white can on a cooler shelf someplace nearby.

While Coca Cola is a refreshing and slightly addictive beverage, its other unique properties means it could be used for a surprising number of other purposes as well. Some of these Coke cleaning hacks you’ll probably find rather amazing or even implausible, but every one of them really do work! Here are just ten reasons why you should always have a few extra cans or bottles of Coke on hand:

1) Remove Burned on Food from Pots and Pans

It happens. You are cooking up a storm. While the food itself turns out OK, the bottom of your pan/pot/griddle ends up covered in burnt on food. You don’t want to scrub too hard and ruin the pot, but soaking it in soapy water really does not seem to be helping. Once again its Coca Cola to the rescue! Pour Coke into the warm burnt pot and let it sit for about an hour. This will allow you to remove all of the gunk with ease and wipe it all off with a regular sponge.

2) Remove Rust

Rust is tough stuff to remove no matter how much money you spend on fancy rust removers. After scrubbing and scrubbing at metal surfaces in an attempt to remove rust, you could scratch and scrape the actual metal. On the other hand, if you use Coca Cola it’s a very different story. It can be used in the same way as your cleaner, wiped on, wiped off. If the item is small enough, soaking it in Coke for a few hours will do the trick too. This will even work on old coins, something collectors should love.

3) Remove Gum from Almost Anything

Chewing gum getting stuck on anything is no fun, especially when it’s dried and super hard to remove, or so you might think. Rather than trying to scrape it off, ‘treat it’ with Coca Cola. Thanks to its acidity, coke can soften the gum to the point that it can be easily peeled away with a blunt knife or something similar without damaging the surface beneath.

4) Clean Battery Terminals

Dirty terminals on a car battery can bring your vehicle to a grinding halt, even if the battery itself has plenty of life left in it. However, if you get into the habit of cleaning off those terminals with Coca Cola and a few Q Tips, you’ll keep those terminals clean and your car will keep on going for as long as its battery has juice. remember to unplug your battery and remove it from the car before trying this.
